ICOM Support Notes
------------------
Verification of Serial Numbers
A.I. Series Ladder Logistics Product (PLC-2, PLC-3, PLC-5 & SLC-500)
Software modules currently installed will be displayed on the Main Menu,
below your company name. The "Software Installed" line will appear
similar to the following:
Software Installed: OFF L5-nnnn, ON L5-nnnn, EMU L5-nnnn, PID5 L5-nnnn
OFF, ON, EMU and PID5 correspond to Offline, Online, Emulation and the
PID Tuner Options, respectively. The L5 indicates the product type,
PLC-5 in this case. The "-nnnn" following the product type indicates the
serial number for that module.
PLC-2 T3 Style Ladder Logistics
You can determine your serial number by holding down the [Alt] key
and pressing the [S] key while viewing the Main Menu. The serial number
will replace the "Working Program" name in the upper left corner of the
screen.
SLC Logistics (SLC-100/150)
The serial number is displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the
Main Menu.
BEFORE YOU CALL TECH SUPPORT (414) 321-4266
To better serve you we have added a front line Technical Support
Reception Department. Our Technical Support phone number is
(414) 321-4266. When calling for support, please specify processor
type, serial number and your name. If at all possible try to call
from a phone near your computer.
Getting Started:
To Install a new software package, Update or Move the software from
one computer to another computer, all ICOM software products use a
SETUP program.
Use your SETUP disk as follows:
-Put your SETUP disk in the floppy drive
-Change to that drive so you have a prompt on the screen that
looks similar to this: A:\>
-Type "SETUP" and press the ENTER key. The SETUP menu will appear.
To Update: Select update from the SETUP program menu
Use this when you receive an update from ICOM
This will copy all disks but the master disks
onto the drive and directory you will
specify.
To Recall: Select Recall from the SETUP program menu
This procedure will move the activation files
from your hard drive back onto the gray
master disks only.
To Install: Select Install from the SETUP program menu
There are 2 kinds of installs.
* 1.) A Full Install- Moves activation files from gray master
disks and copies all other disks into specified
directory on your hard drive.
2.) A Partial Install-Only moves activation files from gray
master disks onto your hard drive. To do a partial
install, when asked if you want to do a full install
answer NO. You will be prompted to insert master disks
only.
* Use number 1.) Install, and select a full install when you
first get the software.
Using EVMOVE to do a Partial Install or Recall:
You may also do a partial install or recall manually without using
the SETUP program. Use the EVMOVE command below.
All of our software supports the following command for transferring
activation files:
To move the activation files from your hard drive to the master
diskette or from the master to the hard drive, use the command
EVMOVE with your masters in the A: or B: drive as shown below. Where
drive a: is your floppy drive and drive c: is your hard drive.
From Hard Drive to Floppy Drive
Change to your floppy drive, type "A:" hit the enter key.
The screen will look similar to this:
A:\>
At the A> type "evmove c: a:" and press ENTER.
Example: A\>evmove c: a:
You will be asked if you want to move the protection to drive
A. Hit your enter key to accept the default yes.
From Floppy Drive to Hard Drive
Change to your floppy drive, type "A:" hit the enter key.
The screen will look similar to this:
A\>
At the A> type "evmove a: c:" and press ENTER.
Example: A\>evmove a: c:
You will be asked if you want to move the protection to drive
A. Hit your enter key to accept the default yes.
* Substitute the appropriate drives in for A or C, if necessary.
The activation files are stored directly in the root directory
on the Hard drive. There is no need to enter a directory when
using the EVMOVE command.
Are you getting a Start up error?
Have you Lost your Activation files due to a hard disk crash?
What do I have for a Back up?
If you lose your activation files you can still run the software by
starting up from your master key disk.
Go to drive C: and the directory you usually run the software
from. (Example c:\PLC-5 type AB5) Bring up the top menu of the
software. If you want to do offline programming put your gray
offline master disk in your floppy drive and push F2) for
offline programming. You will see the hard drive light come on
and all drives A-E will be checked, starting with hard drives
and then going to the floppy drives, until our software finds
the activation files. With the master disk in drive A:, it will
stop searching drives at this point, and you will be in offline
programming. You would do the same for online and emulation.
Replacing Activation Files:
Replacing your lost activation files is as easy as calling our
customer support hotline at (414) 321-ICOM (4266) for a solution. In
an effort to provide a more expedient response to activation file
related problems, we have moved to a new copy protection scheme on
most of our products where we can reset your install count BY PHONE
should you lose it, instead of shipping a repair disk.
Verifying Available Memory (RAM):
Go to a DOS prompt, try the dos command CHKDSK. (Example C:>chkdsk)
The last line, Bytes Free, will give the amount of available RAM. A
much faster and easier method is to use the System Info screen in
SUPPORT.EXE. Conventional Memory Free is the amount of memory
available for running software. The T3 style software needs between
580K and 590K to properly operate. Our A.I. Series needs between
540K and 590K. Note that Expanded and Extended memory are listed as
well. Some of our products will take advantage of Expanded memory.
If you have 640K Total Conventional Memory, yet do not have enough
free memory to run our software, changes to your CONFIG.SYS and
AUTOEXEC.BAT files may be necessary. SUPPORT.EXE provides viewing
and editing access to these files for modification. Decreasing the
BUFFERS number in CONFIG.SYS file and eliminating unnecessary TSR's
(Terminate and Stay Resident) programs in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file
should increase the amount of free memory available. If you have an
80386 machine with an expanded memory manager such as QEMM.SYS from
QuarterDeck or 386-MAX from Qualitas, you may load TSR's into
high memory. For more details on Memory, please read Technical Document
on memory either included in your package or available by FAX from
ICOM Technical Support.
Hints on Installing your 1784-KT Card:
Below are some situations to be considered when installing your
1784-KT card:
1) The factory default address of C000 may conflict with
EGA/VGA video display cards. Newer KT cards may have the
default set to D400. This address shouldn't be a problem.
2) If you have expanded or extended memory, the 1784-KT
address of D000 may conflict with that memory.
3) We recommend the address of D800, however, this address may
not work for your specific system. Please call us if you
have problems configuring your 1784-KT. Remember the
1784-KT address of D800 is equivalent to:
0 1 1 0 1 1 (or)
Closed Open Open Closed Open Open (or)
On Off Off On Off Off
4) PLC-5 processors do not use the interrupt on the 1784-KT
card. Pulling the jumper off of the card may help for
temporary trouble shooting purposes in case an interrupt
would be hooked by accident. The PLC-2 family processors,
however, use the interrupt on the 1784-KT card when
executing the timing chart and contact histogram functions
online. No other online functions utilize the interrupt.
Always remember, the online hardware configuration in the software
must match the physical hardware settings on 1784-KT card.
Hints on configuring the 1784-KT2 Card:
The 1784-KT2 card is configured the same as the 1784-KT card. So
when you are configuring your software for a 1784-KT2, just select
the 1784-KT as your communication device.
Hints on configuring your 1784-KL Card:
When using a T-47 and the 1784-KL card, if you have the QEMM memory
manager driver installed, you must have an exclude statement in your
CONFIG.SYS file as shown below. This prevents the memory manager
from overwriting the 1784-KL memory area. The statement is:
DEVICE=C:\QEMM\QEMM.SYS RAM EXCLUDE=E000-E7FF
Note: C:\QEMM\ as shown is the default path to QEMM.SYS.
Remember that the CONFIG.SYS and the AUTOEXEC.BAT files can be
modified with SUPPORT.EXE very easily.
Hints on Printer Configurations:
If your printer output contains the slanted D or other strange
looking characters instead of a vertical lines (where a power rail
should be), it means that you probably have IBM Graphics set to YES,
but you don't have an IBM graphics mode on your printer. Simply set
Use IBM Graphics to NO in your printer setup and this should correct
the problem.
